WEST SENECA, N.Y. (WKBW) — A man dubbed the “Christmas Day Tootsie Roll Bandit" by West Seneca Police has been charged for a Christmas Day caper.

Police say Michael W. Ohnmeiss of North Tonawanda entered the Speedway store on Orchard Park Rd. and placed a single Tootsie Roll candy on the counter for purchase. When the clerk opened the cash register, Ohnmeiss allegedly reached in and snatched $300 in cash and sped away from the scene in a vehicle.

Roughly 30 minutes later Buffalo Police spotted the vehicle that Ohnmeiss was driving. After a short chase Ohnmeiss crashed into a row of hedges on Potter Rd. and was taken into custody by Buffalo Police since they have their own outstanding charges against him.

Ohnmeiss has been charged with 1 count of petit larceny and is due back in West Seneca court on a later date.
