CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WKBW) — A Cheektowaga man is under arrest, accused of hacking emergency communication channels and threatening to open fire inside a retail business.

Jonathan Roberts, 33, is facing a felony charge of making a terroristic threat and unauthorized radio transmissions, a misdemeanor.

According to police, Roberts hacked into the Cheektowaga Police Department's emergency communication frequency and threatened to shoot an unnamed store in May.

Investigators say an alert patrolman heard a transmission and noticed Robert's vehicle nearby. Inside, police say they found a radio capable of transmitting on the CPD's frequency. Roberts' voice matched the voice on the recorded threat.

Roberts is due to appear in Erie County Court on July 24.
