AMHERST, N.Y. (WKBW) — Police in Amherst say they've charged a Cheektowaga man for driving a stolen vehicle in Amherst early Sunday morning.
Authorities say 31-year-old Jay Mecca was seen driving a 1998 Toyota Corolla at the corner of Lynncrest and Wehrle around 5 a.m. Sunday, after the vehicle was reported stolen from Buffalo on Saturday.
Officers noticed Mecca leaving the vehicle, eventually walking on Wehrle.
Investigators charged Mecca with the following
- Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th degree
- Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle in the 3rd degree
- Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 3rd degree
Mecca was processed at the police station in Amherst, and issued an appearance ticket for a future court date.
