BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Locals call it a little piece of paradise. With Lake Ontario as the backdrop, Wilson is a great staycation spot for families.

“It’s not just a marina, it’s not just a restaurant, it’s like a resort feeling,” Dillion Quiette, the General Manager of Marina Operations said. The Wilson Boat House Restauranthas been open for takeout but on Thursday, they will reopen indoor and outdoor dining.

They have Five Coconuts Bar right next to the boat slips which helps create the vacation vibes in the harbor.

“People are worried about coming to new destinations and I think Wilson provides a safe enough place to do that,” Mary Moley-Palacios is on the board for Celebrate Wilson.

From the water where you can rent kayaks, to downtown where you can grab food at restaurants, Wilson is reopening even when they have missed out on half their season.

They are missing a big part of their tourism-- Canadians own houses, boat slips, and frequent the small town. With the border still closed, they are hoping locals will come check out all they have to offer.

Anne Basile is the Director of Tourism for Visit Wilson and says if you like small crowds, now is the time to visit the lake town.

You will also get a glimpse of the agricultural landscape with a winery and brewery.

Dan Hogue and his wife have owned Victorianbourg Winery since 2009. While COVID-19 paused their tastings for a while, they have brought them back utilizing their beautiful outdoor space and serving people the tastings rather than having people come up to a bar.

“It's rural and relaxing and a great place to spend the day,” Hogue said.

Grab a bottle of their chocolate wine and head on down to the lake to finish off the day with a sunset.
