MAYVILLE, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office and the USDA are warning the public about a text message scam that is targeting people who are using SNAP benefits.

According to a release from the USDA, those targeted are receiving texts claiming that you were chosen to receive SNAP benefits or food stamps and will then request personal information such as your social security number, PIN numbers or bank information. Do not share any of these details with someone you suspect could be a scammer.

If you received one of these messages, you are asked to contact your local SNAP office, not law enforcement.
