BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A man from Long Island has been charged in a crash that killed a woman in Buffalo last fall. 30-year-old Carlos Velez of Greenport, NY has been indicted on charges of Vehicular Manslaughter in the Second Degree and Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device.

Erie County District Attorney John Flynn says Velez ran a red light at the corner of Genesee Street and Fillmore Avenue in Buffalo on October 11, 2018, and collided with another vehicle. The crash caused his vehicle to go onto the sidewalk. His car struck 47-year-old Adrienne Early of Buffalo, who was standing at a bus stop. Early died at the scene.

Flynn says evidence shows that Velez was under the influence of marijuana at the time of the crash. He is being held without bail, and faces up to 7 years in prison if he is convicted.
