Central air tips for the hot summer months

BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) — Temperatures are set to heat up this week and the rest of the summer, because of the whole summer thing.

Thomas Miranda from Cellino Plumbing and HVAC has a few tips to make sure your house stays cool, if you have central air.

Outside: Watch out for cottonwood pollen in your AC unit.

“You don't need a lot of pressure. Angle the hose down and push that cottonwood down. You don't want to push it through the system, you want to push it down,” said Miranda.

Inside: Pay attention the thermostat.

It may seem strange to keep the AC on all the time. But, it's better for the AC Unit. Turning it on and off over and over again puts stress on the unit.

“A lot of times is what happens is you overwork your air-conditioning and you can make it not operate properly,” said Miranda.

For you furnace, check the filter.

Miranda recommends changing the filter once a month. He also says, it’s fine to use the less expensive paper filters.

“Hold it up to a light. If you can see through it, perfectly, it's probably ok,” said Miranda about checking filters.

Above all else, get your AC and furnace checked every year.

“The most expensive and dangerous appliances in your home are heating your home and cooling your home. Why not keep your family safe?” said Miranda.
