Celebrating unsung heroes of the holidays

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — United States Postal Workers are busy making sure your packages are delivered on-time this holiday season.

“From Black Friday to Christmas Eve, the parcel volume triples and quadruples,” said Zakary Darlak, a letter carrier for USPS.

Darlak says during this time of year, the days are long as the letters and packages keep flowing.

“We deliver 150-200 parcels per route,” he said. “Each route has 500-600 stops.”

The weather isn’t always like it was Monday, with 40 degree, mild temps.

“It’s been up and down with the weather,” he said. “Somedays it’s hard to do the job with the weather conditions.”

Dark walks about 14 miles per day delivering packages, and says there are things you can do to help, like leaving a light on, and clearing a path to your mailbox.

“We are here to serve our customer and make sure everyone has what they need for the holidays,” he said.
