BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — New statistics from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) suggest an early start to the flu season.

The CDC says as of November 9th there is widespread flu in 3 states: California, Louisiana and Maryland. That means there are confirmed flu cases in at least 50% of geographic regions in those states.

New York is one of 19 states with "local activity". There is regional flu activity in 8 other states. Overall, there is flu activity in about 60% of the country, which the CDC says is high for this time of year.

The CDC says anyone who is six months of age or older should get a flu shot.
