BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — For years, people have been stopping in and saying hi at Terrapin Station on Hertel Avenue. Now, the store's owner says they're selling the iconic building.

"Retail is a hard business now," said Barry Cohen, owner. "I'm not used to it being like that. The internet killed us. I'm just tired, I'm old, I've done it for so long. It's time."

The store first opened its doors in 1988 as a place for all things Grateful Dead and to buy handmade goods.

Cohen says being a smoke shop is hard now that you can get many smoking accessories from bodegas or gas stations.

"It's so sad, it's a great place, everything is so awesome here, it's a fun place to shop," said Patty Cipolla, a Deadhead and longtime customer.

Cohen hopes someone steps in and buys it from him. For now, they remain open every day, 10-8.

"I want to get through the holidays," said Cohen. "And I really would like people to support-- not us -- but local small business people. Every dollar in here stays in the community."

If you are interested in purchasing the store, have any questions regarding the store or building, you can stop in and say hi or reach out to Cohen.
