Buffalo woman charged with stealing controlled substances

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — 33-year-old Kristy Brucz, of Buffalo, faces a maximum of four years in prison and a $250,000 fine for allegedly obtaining controlled substances by fraud.

According to the U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Brucz worked as an office manager for a local physician between 2015 and 2018 and obtained control of the New York State issued controlled substance electronic prescribing token and its passwords.

Brucz allegedly issued 166 fraudulent controlled substance prescriptions, they were issued in her name or in the name of 12 fictitious or unwitting participants.

The 166 prescriptions totaled 11,885 dosage units, Brucz also utilized 25 different pharmacies and a variety of payment methods. Her scheme was discovered in March of 2018 and she has since been fired.
