BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Buffalo Common Council has announced a proposal to rename a street in the city in honor of "Black Lives Matter" after receiving a request from a local student.

Buffalo Common Council President Darius Pridgen filed the resolution, which is expected to be discussed at the meeting on June 23.

The proposal was inspired by a letter from a 17-year-old Frederick Law Olmsted student. The common council says he has a "passion for his community and aims to recognize the people and organizations who have contributed to the advancement of a worthy cause."

The meeting can be viewed online on the common council's Facebook page.
