EAST AURORA, N.Y. (WKBW) — Mysterious red hearts are popping up all around East Aurora.

“A local guy came in Saturday and said it was an anonymous donor in East Aurora who bought a lot of these hearts on her own," co-owner of Vidlers Don Vidler said. "

“He told me that it was basically just a way of expressing care for everybody in the area," a sales associate at Primia Oliva added. "There was no message behind it, not even a donation or anything. Just, 'put this heart in the window,’" she said.

And that’s exactly what businesses along Main Street did.

“It’s pretty neat. There’s a lot of them," Vidler said.

Donna Tucker, a sales associate at Primia Olivia, said the red hearts bring a sense of solidarity to the business owners on Main Street.

“Soon as I put the heart in the window, I saw a business across the street had a heart in the window," she said. "It was just a message to each other like I care about you, you care about me.”

But these hearts stretch way beyond Main Street. Homes in the area have also been spotted with red hearts, and while no one knows exactly who is spreading the love in East Aurora, business owners on Main Street definitely feel it.

“Thank you for very much. It's extremely generous. I think it's a terrific idea," Vidler said.

And it's kind of a way of feeling welcomed in this little town,” Tucker added.
