CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WKBW) — For more than two years, Zeek Masci has been visiting his wife Josephine daily at Garden Gate Health Care Facility in Cheektowaga.

But since COVID-19 hit Western New York in March, he has been unable to see his wife. Instead, the couple speak over the phone twice a day.

"All I want to hear her say is she's OK. Then I'm happy for that day, you know. She's always asking me how I'm feeling. I tell her I'm alright as long as you're OK," said Zeek.

On Tuesday, staff at Garden Gate put together a special, COVID-friendly celebration for Zeek and Josephine's 70th wedding anniversary.

Surrounded by friends, family, balloons and cake, Zeek and Josephine were able to see each other for the first time since March. Zeek stood outside, looking through a window pane at the love of his life.

"Happy anniversary to you. I love you. I love you too. I miss you," Zeek said through a speakerphone.

Josephine echoed the words back at him.

"I don't know anybody else who has made it this far and they still love each other just as much as they did in the beginning. My grandpa talks about her all the time, he's just as in love," said Maria White, Zeek and Josephine's granddaughter.
