BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Daily Planet Coffee has exhausted all options and used every available resource to stay afloat.

After a second COVID-19 shutdown hit them particularly hard, owner Mike Caputi launched a GoFundMe page for his coffee shop.

"We're at a point now where I don't know how much longer we can do this," said Caputi.

He didn't want to, but he did it for two reasons.

"Our goal was to one, keep our employees employed. These are mostly college students who this is their paycheck. And two, to provide something for our customers," said Caputi.

Right now, they rely only on takeout orders.

Daily Planet are typically one of the first few to step up an offer help to anyone struggling in the community. But now, it's them who desperately need the help from the community.

Last spring, Caputi planned a fundraiser for Two Wheels Bakery after the building they were in collapsed.

Caputi said it's just what they do; they try to do something nice for the planet, daily.

"The planet starts with your neighborhood. Do something for your neighbor. I mean if you can't take care of the person next door or down the street, doesn't it seem a little foolish to be worrying about saving the planet when if you can't save the guy next door?" he said.

Caputi said he hopes they'll be back in a position where they can help others, but right now they need all the help they can get.
