HAMBURG, N.Y. (WKBW) — A local, women-owned retail shop in Hamburg is giving back in a big way.

Molly & Kate sells local women’s home decor and clothing in the Village of Hamburg. The store, owned by two sisters Molly and Kate has been open about five years.

Sisters Molly Sowinski and Kate Violante say traditionally they have a big reveal of their holiday decor the day after Thanksgiving, with a big Black Friday giveaway and a first look at the holiday collection.

This year, uncertain if they’d be open due to COVID-19 concerns, and to discourage crowds on Black Friday, Molly & Kate had an early Christmas reveal. They donated 10% of their Black Friday proceeds to adopt a local family in need.

“It was an opportunity from open to close that you could be a part of,” Sowinski said of the Black Friday shoppers. “I think there’s a greater need than ever before this year.”

The sisters say a lot of their shoppers made sure to come out Black Friday to be a part of the donation.

The City of Good Neighbors stepped up in a big way. Customers and clients asked the women how they could help even after the Black Friday donation ended.

Molly, taking to social media to launch the Molly and Kate Gives Back Venmo account. Donations are already pouring in.

“Just now with cash donations, not including our contribution from Black Friday it’s almost $2,000."

The sisters say they're able to adopt ten families in need this holiday season.
