BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — FeedMore WNY is busier than ever, trying to make sure everyone is fed during this tough time.
"We’ve seen an uptick in need at all of our partner food pantries. They’re calling us saying they’re serving double, triple the clients than they’ve ever served," said Catherine Shick, Communications Director at FeedMore WNY.
We're a big family in WNY. That's why a local volunteer is spending her free time helping feed those in need.
“We’re all in this together so really this is a way for me to help my neighbors, help my family," said Kate Piazza of Buffalo.
Piazza has devoted her life to helping others. She's worked for non-profits as long as she can remember.
“My parents really instilled in me, help others before yourself,” said Piazza.
She works for Leadership Buffalo day to day, but lately, things have been really slow. So she started volunteering for Feedmore WNY, packing emergency kits and delivering meals.
“We’re so grateful to have people like Kate," said Shick.
Delivering meals door to door gets a little more difficult when you add in the rules of social distancing. Six feet is further than you think. Feedmore WNY is trying different ways to work around the new reality.
"Lots of hand sanitizer, just asking them can I put your meal down on a table rather than handing it off. Just trying to keep that distance, a lot of fist bumps," said Piazza.
FeedMore WNY will need more help as the pandemic continues. If you want to help, click here to volunteer, click here to donate or call 716-822-2002. If you need food assistance you can call or click here.
“Our WNY Neighbors continue to rise to the challenge. Covid 19 is no match for the generosity of WNY,” said Shick.
