BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Niagara Square and the Elmwood Village became packed with people celebrating the news that Former Vice President Joe Biden has become the projected winner of the 2020 election.

"Biden has been elected president and we have our queen Kamala Harris. I am feeling empowered," Donna Robinson said.

"I feel great. The climate that we are currently in right now is a time for healing. It's a time for celebration. This is what we have been waiting for," Dale Martin said.

The streets filled with people happy with the projected election results, in which Former Vice President defeated President Donald Trump.

"It's a good feeling. Also to hear all the people honking in agreement. It's almost like you're free for the first time in a long time," Bill Wachob said.

"I think Western New York is a reflection of our entire United States," Martin said.

Gatherers believe protests, marches and demonstrations were the reason for Biden's projected win.

"Right now we're definitely celebrating. We know that this moment was made possible because of organizing," Josie Diebold said.

"When democracy is under attack, this is what we need to do wherever we are on the planet," Jim Anderson said.

To some, this is a step in the right direction, but there's much more work to do.

"It isn't over. Joe Biden has some things he needs to do. There's some policies that need to be changed. There's some new policies that need to be instituted," Anderson said.

"Now we have to start and really keep America going towards freedom and anti-racism," Wachob said.
