BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Buffalo Police Department welcomed a new member of the K-9 unit Saturday.

The department's newest K9 is a two-year-old female German Shepherd from the Netherlands named Justice.

"Named in honor of the mission to 'Help make All things Right' and 'Live in Love,'" police said in Facebook post.

Justice's handler will be officer Dan Ahearn. Ahearn has been with the department for nine years.

He and Justice will be attending an extensive academy in Canada over the next several months.

After training Justice will become a patrol/narcotics K9.

The department offered a special thank you to the community for any donations to the K-9 unit as well as donations from the blue pumpkins that helped purchase Justice.
