Buffalo police announce death of detective sergeant

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Buffalo Police Department announced Sunday the death of Detective Sergeant James Dunham.

Dunham was a 23 year member of the department, he was assigned as a supervisor in the Buffalo Police Homicide Unit.

In a Facebook post the police department said he oversaw many high profile cases and asked to keep his family in your thoughts and prayers this holiday season.

"It is with heavy hearts that the Buffalo Police Department announces the death of Detective Sergeant James Dunham. A 23 year veteran of the department, Sergeant Dunham was assigned as a supervisor in the Buffalo Police Homicide Unit where he oversaw the investigation of many high profile cases. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers this holiday season."

There will a Celebration of Life gathering held for Dunham on Sunday, December 29 at the Castiglia Funeral Home at 873 Abbott Rd in Buffalo. The gathering will be held from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
