Buffalo officers escape serious injury after car slams into patrol car: Police

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Buffalo Police have arrested an individual in connection with an accident involving a Buffalo police patrol car Sunday night.

It happened at the intersection of East Ferry Street and Wohlers Avenue around 10:15 p.m.

Police say the driver of the vehicle, 29-year-old Andre Goldsmith, of Buffalo, was pulled over previously and sped off in the vehicle at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then rear ended another patrol vehicle, causing injuries to the two officers inside the patrol vehicle. Goldsmith's vehicle also struck a building, numerous poles and a fire hydrant.

According to police, a male passenger in Goldsmith's vehicle suffered severe injuries and is in critical condition at Erie County Medical Center.

Goldsmith has been charged with multiple vehicle and traffic violations and felonies related to the incident, including assault, reckless endangerment and unlawful fleeing of a police officer.

Police report the two officers who were injured were treated and released from ECMC.

The department's accident investigation unit and internal affairs division were notified following the accident.
