BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Summer is a busy time for many things-- especially vacations. The Buffalo Niagara International Airport is expecting nearly a million passengers and crew members to pass through TSA screening between now and Labor Day.

To beat the lines to make sure you get on your flight at the right time, TSA officals say:
-Pack appropriately. Do not pack liquids more than 3 fluid ounces, do not bring guns or bullets and empty all water bottles before going through security. For a full list of prohibited items click here.

  • People can also go to AskTSA on Twitter and Facebook for specific questions they have.

-Get to the airport an 1.5/2 hours early. With the additional traffic due to construction zones, TSA officials at the Buffalo Niagara Airport say it's important to leave early with the added traffic. -Get a Real ID from the DMV. You'll need a real ID or an enhanced license to board a domestic flight beginning October 1st, 2020. You can board a flight with a passport but by 2020 you will not be able to board a flight with just a regular license. Erie County Clerk Michael P. Kerns urges people to apply for their IDs sooner rather than later to beat the crowds.

  • Information on how to get a real ID can be found here.

TSA experienced its busiest day ever the Friday before Memorial Day.

The construction at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport will continue through the summer. By August, Lee Weitz, Deputy Director of Aviation for NFTA, says there will be steel structures built for people to see the enhancements instead of just holes in the ground.
