BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The 2020 Buffalo Marathon will be postponed for one year. The organization will now celebrate the running of its 20th marathon in 2021.

Organizers say these weeks have been unprecedented and unpredictable, and went on to say, "We think you’ll agree that holding a 10,000 person gathering just weeks after being told to practice social distancing is irresponsible and goes against governmental recommendations as well as against the Marathon’s mission of doing good for the community."

The 20th anniversary of the marathon will now be run on Sunday, May 30th 2021. Here's what organizers want you to know:

  • Registrants retain their registration for 2021.
  • Those not able to attend in 2012 can defer their entries for 2022 or 2023
  • Registrants may sell or transfer entries at no charge

The race is a non-for-profit event, and is run by the cost of entry fees. A few weeks ago organizers placed an emergency order for additional hand sanitizer for volunteers. That will now be donated when it arrives.
