BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Erie County District Attorney's Office announced a Buffalo man accused of killing his girlfriend's baby has been charged with second degree murder and first degree manslaughter.

Officials say between August 1, 2020 and September 15, 2020 35-year-old Robert Dumas allegedly caused the death of his girlfriend's 17-month-old child by fatally beating the child inside a home on Hirschbeck Avenue in Buffalo.

The child, Simone Calhoun, was unresponsive and taken to Oishei Children's Hospital where she later died from her injuries on September 19, 2020. The district attorney's office says the cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma.

Dumas was virtually arraigned Wednesday and continues to be held without bail, he faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison if convicted on all charges. A return court date has not been scheduled.
