BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Buffalo police say a 29-year-old Buffalo man has been charged for falsely reporting that a child was inside a car when it was stolen in order to get a faster police response time.

Police say Jaron Quarles reported to police that his car was stolen with a nine-year-old boy inside the car at the intersection of Orleans Street and LaSalle Avenue around 8:30 Saturday night.

Authorities say Quarles has been charged with falsely reporting an incident and further charges are possible.

Police say the vehicle is still outstanding at this time.

Officers are warning to not leave your vehicle running while it is unattended.
