BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Shootings in the City of Buffalo this summer have erupted.

Buffalo Police say shootings are up 84% since June 1.

"This is very targeted violence," said Deputy Police Commissioner Joe Gramaglia. "The vast majority of the victims almost all have been targeted and it is the vast majority if not all gang violence."

The startling statistics have Buffalo Police and the FBI on high alert.

"79 people have been shot since June 1," Gramaglia said.

Buffalo Police say shootings at the beginning of the year were already up 30% in the city.

It's a statistic that's being seen nation wide, and investigators say most of the violence is targeted, and gang related.

"Some of these guys have just gotten out of jail and are settling scores," he said.

Recently, the U.S. Attorney's Office charged two men with criminal possession of a firearm, and says there is gang warfare between the Central Park Gang and the Fruit Belt Gang.

Additionally, Buffalo Police say there have been 10 shooting homicides in the city since June 1.
