BPD Officer is recovering after COVID-19 diagnosis

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Buffalo Police Department Juan Phillips has been at ECMC for 27 days with COVID-19. Mayor Byron Brown announced Monday that he is doing much better and recovering from the virus.

"I'm very pleased to say based on information from his family that he is recovering. We are all so thankful," said Mayor Brown.

7 Eyewitness News brought you his story in late March, when Phillips was admitted to the ICU. is a school resource officer with BPD in his sixties. He's a 35-year veteran known for putting others first.

"He's a very humble man...he would say thank you to the many, many people who have sent prayers and well wishes his way for his recovery," said Mayor Brown.

Mayor Brown stopped by ECMC on Monday afternoon to thank healthcare workers and provide them with lunch from Kevin's Catering.

"I want to thank the great professionals at ECMC for the care and treatment they've given to Officer Phillips," said Mayor Brown.
