The parents of a seven-year-old struck by a stray bullet while he was sleeping in his bedroom aren't staying at the home out of fear for their safety. They told 7 Eyewitness News they also plan to sell the home.

"It's unreal someone would do this," the boy's father said. He added they have no idea who is responsible.

The boy has been released from Oishei Children's Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. His parents said the injuries could have been worse. Thankfully, the bullet only grazed his thigh.

Investigators spent much of Tuesday canvassing the area for clues. They don't believe it was a hunting accident, but it's unclear who was the intended target.

Neighbors said they're shocked it could happen in this small-tight knit community. "I know almost all my neighbors and we're all quite surprised that something like this would happen," said Cody Gernatt who lives next door to where the shooting occurred. He said he heard a car with loud music pull up to the house at the time and eventually speed off a short time later. But, he said he never heard the sound of gunshots.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest. The tip line is 867-6161.
