ELLERY, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say two boaters have been rescued from a cabin cruiser that was sinking in a lake in western New York.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office got a call about a boat taking on water in Chautauqua Lake on Sunday. They spotted the 28-foot (8.5-meter) boat with its bow sticking out of the water about a half-mile (1 km) from shore.

The two occupants were taken to shore by a passing boat.

Hazmat teams placed booms around the sunken boat Monday to collect any leaking fuel. Authorities will try to recover the boat Tuesday if weather permits.

Nearby on Lake Erie, Chautauqua County sheriff's deputies report rescuing a man whose kayak overturned Monday afternoon near the village of Silver Creek. The 45-year-old kayaker wore a life jacket and was uninjured.
