BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Bishop Timon-St. Jude High School is extending a challenge to alumni who put their lives on the line for their community every day.

A group of graduates from the South Buffalo school is presenting the 'Battle of the Badges' fundraising event in hopes of raising $50,000 for their alma mater.

An anonymous foundation has promised to match every dollar raised, which could add up to a $100,000 donation to the school.

The event is a friendly competition between alumni who have gone on to careers as firefighters and law enforcers. The first alumni group to raise $25,000 will win the 'Battle of the Badges' trophy, said school board chairman Michael Burns.

Team Law Enforcement is led by retired Buffalo Police Detective Ed Cotter (Class of '77) and current Buffalo Police Officer John Davidson (Class of 2002).

Team Fire and Rescue features co-captains Matthew Whelan (Class of 1986) and Christopher Whelan (Class of 1990), who both currently serve with the Buffalo Fire Department.
