BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — You’ve definitely have seen more of these on the roads. Families are grabbing their bikes from the basement and exploring different trails around Western New York.

Northstar Bike owners Hayden Harter and Nick Cognetto opened their location on Plaza Drive in Amherst in May and have been packed ever since.

Cognetto says there are tons of trails all over from ones in the woods to some in the city.

For more of a nature ride, Harter recommends Ellicott Creek Trailway in Amherst, or the Outer Harbor Bike Park.

"Have a destination and pick a spot, go and get ice cream or visit a friend's house 10 miles away," Harter said.

Cognetto says Buffalo is a very bike-friendly city.

“You can go into Delaware Park and then you can go to Unity Island which is a really fun trail that many people don’t know about,” Cognetto said.

Before you go, here are some of the essentials you need: a multi-tool for fixing a bike if you need to, tire tubes, water bottles, gear grease, and a solid pump.

One thing you will never want to forget is a helmet, you want to make sure it fits right with it resting right above your eyebrows and it doesn’t shake when you are not on the bike.
