BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — On Saturday, you can get involved in a national effort to help reduce the number of prescription drug overdoses, deaths and people who struggle with addiction. It's called National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

From 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., the Drug Enforcement Administration will have sites set up all over Western New York and the country where you can drop off your unused prescription drugs.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, people all over the country turned in nearly 460 tons of prescription drugs to more than 5,800 DEA sites at a similar event last fall. The department's regional director in New York says the Drug Take Back Day helps prevent those prescriptions from getting into children's and teenagers' hands.

You can find the drop off site in your neighborhood here.
