LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WKBW) — A Town of Newfane man is facing charges after a deadly crash on Lockport Junction Road in Lockport on Wednesday.
The incident occurred just after 7 p.m. in the area of 5151 Lockport Junction Road. The Niagara County Sheriff's Office said a pickup truck was traveling south when it veered off the road, struck a utility pole and rolled over.
There were two people in the vehicle, the driver and a passenger.
The passenger, identified as 47-year-old Rodolfo Espinoza III from Newfane, was trapped in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, 52-year-old Thomas Summers, was allegedly found to be under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash. He was transported to Lockport Memorial Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Summer was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while ability impaired by drugs. He was remanded to the Niagara County Jail while he awaits arraignment at CAP Court.
