POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (WKBW) — A local Tops Markets employee "bagged" herself a state championship.

Nikki Cheapé won first place at the 2019 New York State Best Bagger Competition. She competed against 15 other contestants from across New York.

The contestants were judged on speed, distribution of weight between bags, proper bag building technique, and style, attitude, and appearance. She just competed and won the the Top's Regional Bagging competition.

Cheapé won a total of $2,000 at the state competition. She now has a chance to win $10,000 at the National Championship in San Diego in 2020. Cheapé is the office manager at Tops Friendly Markets at Transit and Maple in Amherst.
