Arrest made in Niagara Falls stabbing, victim in critical condition

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WKBW) — Niagara Falls police say a victim is in critical condition and an arrest has been made following a stabbing Thursday.

According to police, officers responded to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center around 4 a.m. Thursday and found a 29-year-old individual who was allegedly stabbed in the neck at another location.

Following an investigation police say the victim was in the passenger seat of a vehicle with two other individuals in the vehicle.

The individual seated behind the victim allegedly stabbed the victim in the neck after an argument and then exited the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle took the victim to the hospital.

Police identified 55-year-old Spencer Groom as the suspect, they say he was taken into custody and confessed to the assault.

The victim lost a large amount of blood and remains in critical condition at ECMC.

Groom faces an assault in the first degree charge, he was arraigned Friday and bail was set at $50,000.

Police say if the victim dies the charge could be upgraded.
