Arrest made in fatal Town of Niagara hit and run

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — New York State Troopers say Keiyoshia M. James, 20 of Niagara Falls, NY has been arrested for a hit and run in December that killed 22-year-old Maxim Vyazovoy of Niagara Falls.

The hit-and-run occurred on Lockport Road between Military Road and Norman Street sometime overnight or early that morning, police discovered the body after 8 a.m., police say.

Troopers out of SP Niagara responded to Lockport Road in the town of Niagara on the morning of December 21 for a human body located off the side of the roadway. They say Vyazovoy of Niagara Falls, NY was walking on the north side of the roadway and was struck by a vehicle, according to police.

The Niagara County Coroner pronounced Vyazovoy dead at the scene.

Police utilized car parts and evidence at the scene and were able to locate the vehicle and James was arrested and processed. James was virtually arraigned at SP Niagara by Niagara Falls City Court.

James was released and is scheduled for court in October 2020.

The victim's sister also wrote on his GoFundMe page that her brother Max, "had a big heart and loved the company of his family and friends". His sister also wrote that her brother was quote "left for dead to freeze" and that her family is "devastated".

NYSP Collision Reconstruction Unit, NYSP Forensic Identification Unit, Niagara Falls Police Department, the Niagara County District Attorney’s Office and the Town of Niagara Fire Department assisted in this investigation.
