BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — First responders can receive half off the Emergency Management program at Erie Community College.

Garrett Wynn is the 1st Assistant Chief at U-Crest Fire Department in Cheektowaga. He said he mostly takes classes online, so it fits well with his full-time job.

"Ultimately I went back to better myself to gain as much knowledge pertaining to the emergency services as I can, and I try to branch out in different directions," he said.

ECC said the 50% off would make the cost of tuition for the two year program $4,900. Participants in the program leave with an Associate's Degree. The school's Provost and Executive Vice President, Douglas Scheidt, said it gives first responders the opportunity to better understand how the entire emergency management system works, giving them the potential to move from the front-line to a managerial role.

The deadline to apply to the program and receive 50% off is January 10th.
