NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Aquarium of Niagara held a name and gender reveal for its Humboldt Penguin chicks on Friday morning.

The penguins hatched back in April, but they have been going by the names "Alpha" and "Beta" until the aquarium could determine their sexes and give them names.

The penguins, a boy and girl, are the first to hatch at the aquarium in 16 years. The boy is named Smitty and the girl is named Jules.

Humboldt penguins' sexes can only be determined by a blood test.

Smitty and Jules can be seen by visitors at the Penguin Coast exhibit, which underwent a $3.6 million renovation back in 2018.
