BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Since the spring of 2014, Angel Gowns of Western New York has donated thousands of dresses to the families of babies who have never made it home from the hospital. Thanks to donations from brides, prom-goers, and bridesmaids, this nonprofit organization has been able to offer bereaved parents this small gift.

Angel Gowns of WNY has donated burial dresses to more than 100 angel groups around the world.

"Our mission is to take the worst possible moment in a parent's life and make it just a little bit better," seamstress for Angel Gowns Terry O. Michalek said.

Parents have expressed their gratitude to the organization through letters.

"We received a fabulous thank you letter from a gentleman who said it was the only time his daughter would ever wear a wedding gown," Michalek said.

When creating gowns, the organizers take into account ethnic background, size of the baby, and age.

"You think of Angel Gowns, you think of preemies, stillborns anywhere from 14 weeks to full terms, but there are babies who are in the hospital for three to six...nine months and still don't come home," Michalek said.

While the nonprofit charity is not currently accepting dresses, they are still looking for seamstress. For more information on how to help click here.
