BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The gun sounded and more than 4600 runners took off on their journey to the finish line in Buffalo's 19th consecutive Buffalo Marathon.

At the finish line there were two proposals on Sunday.

“No, no it was such a surprise, it meant so much just to have him at the finish line for me. But no I wasn’t expecting anything like this," Kristin Waldby said, when her boyfriend, Andrew Torres, dropped to a knee once she finished.

“We’ve been together for almost nine years so I had a little bit of confidence," Torres said.

Jospeh Whelan won the men's gold and Leellie Pell took home the women's gold who was at a loss for words after crossing the finish line.

“Even at mile 24 and I’m like ‘this is the longest mile of my life,’ you’re just enjoying it," Pell said. “The training is the journey but the race is the cake.”

The marathon has raised more than $325,000 over the last four years for local organizations.
