BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — New York State police say an Amherst man has been arrested and faces several charges in connection with a police pursuit on the I-90 August 22.

According to state police, a report came in around 6:40 p.m. about a vehicle involved in several hit-and-run accidents entering the I-90 from the Williamsville toll plaza. Troopers say the vehicle was observed with damage to both sides and traveling over 100 mph westbound in the Town of Cheektowaga.

Police attempted a traffic stop but the driver, 26-year-old William J. Cloutier, failed to comply according to officials. A pursuit began which ended after Cloutier went through the Lackawanna toll plaza.

State police say Cloutier was determined to be intoxicated but refused to submit to a breath test to determine the alcohol content in his system.

He faces the following charges:

  • Unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle third degree.
  • Resisting arrest.
  • Driving while intoxicated.
  • Reckless driving.
  • Several vehicle and traffic violations.

Cloutier was turned over to a sober third party and released on appearance tickets returnable to Town of Hamburg Court and traffic tickets returnable to Cheektowaga and West Seneca courts.
