AMHERST, N.Y. (WKBW) — A positive case of COVID-19 has been confirmed within the Amherst Central School District.

Superintendent Anthony Panella notified parents Thursday.

"The individual who tested positive has not physically attended any of our school buildings and will not physically attend school until they have met the requirements outlined in our Return to School Flowchart, which are based on state and local DOH guidelines," Panella said in a statement posted on the district's Facebook page.

The district did not release additional information about the individual who tested positive, only saying the positive case was communicated before the start of in-person attendance.

"Finally, please remember to follow the Temperature and Daily Self Screening Protocol prior to sending your child to school," Panella said.

All school districts in the state must now report the number of people who have tested positive for COVID-19 to the New York State Department of Health, which will then input that information into an online dashboard for public tracking.

As of Thursday afternoon, the dashboard was still not up and running.
