SOMERSET, N.Y. (WKBW) — A Niagara County man is dead after he accidentally got trapped underneath a tree in Somerset, Friday afternoon.

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office says 76-year-old William Rucker was found unconscious after a tree trunk split when he was felling a tree with a chainsaw.

Sheriff's deputies and various other agencies responded to the home on Johnson Creek Road in Somerset.

Crews were able to extricate Rucker but lifesaving measures were unsuccessful.

Investigators say the cut portion of the tree landed on Rucker and pinned him to the ground causing his death.
