7 things to do in Western New York this Mother's Day weekend: May 10th - May 12th

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Happy Mother's Day, WNY!

Plan a weekend with mom with these seven things going on in and around the Queen City this weekend. Summer themed rides and events are beginning to pop up across the area. So while we won't be basking in sunshine and 80-degree weather this weekend, you can at least see and experience a preview of what summer will be like.

Fantasy Island Food Truck Festival

Some of your favorite food trucks will set up shop at one of Western New York's theme park staples. Of course we're talking about Fantasy Island. Food trucks will line the midway Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can find a list of food trucks here.

Fairy and Gnome House Exhibit at Botanical Gardens

What better excuse for your child to dress up and head to the Botanical Gardens this weekend? Fairies and gnomes have taken over the place. There are over 25 designs for you and your child to see and check out. It costs $11 for adults and $6 for children between the ages of 3 and 12. You can find a schedule and tickets here.

Fridays on Forest

Spend an evening touring some of Buffalo's most historic buildings. Fridays on Forest makes a stop at the Buffalo History Museum’s Resource Center and the Richardson Olmsted Campus. The tour runs from 5: 30 p.m. to 7 :30 p.m. You must pre-register for the event. Tickets cost $30. you can find more information here.

Elmwood Village Farmers Market

The Elmwood Village Farmers Market will begin its 21st season this Saturday, May 11th at the corner of Elmwood Avenue and Bidwell Parkway in Buffalo. More than 40 different vendors will offer fresh and seasonal products, including fresh meats, fruits and vegetables, and craft beer. The market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Spirit of Buffalo

It's too cold to dip your toes into Lake Erie. However, the Spirit of Buffalo is ready to set sail starting this weekend. You and your friends can kick back and relax on the open waters of Lake Erie for two hours. The Spirit of Buffalo leaves the dock at 3 p.m. Saturday. You can find a schedule here.

World's Largest Yard Sale

One person's trash is another person's treasure. That is certainly going to be true at the World's Largest Yard Sale at the Hamburg Fairgrounds this weekend. You can drive on down to the fairgrounds Friday and Saturday and see if you can score a few deals. It costs $4 to get in.
