BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — To honor our fallen heroes, the Buffalo & Erie County Naval & Military Park will host a socially distant Memorial Day weekend salute.

The Naval Park will place 7,300 flags on Thursday and Friday throughout the Monuments Garden, in collaboration with The Battle Within Foundation.

7,300 represents the number of U.S. Veterans who died in 2019 as a result of PTSD and suicide.

On Saturday between 10 and 11 a.m., park staff will raise a new flag at the Rotary Flagpole.

Additionally, five docents in uniform will participate as a socially distant Honor Guard to represent each military branch.

The ceremony will be recorded and shared online.
