BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A 21-year-old man from Lackawanna pleaded guilty Thursday to causing a crash in May that killed three people.

The accident happened in Varysburg at the intersection of Maxon Road and Route 20A.

Richard Sawicki ran his vehicle through a stop sign at 70 miles per hour and then collided with a minivan carrying nine people. It's believed Sawicki's vehicle was traveling 60 miles per hour at the point he crashed into the van. Investigators found no signs of braking just before impact. It's believed Sawicki was out drinking all night until about two horus before the crash happened.

The crash caused the death of three people inside the van. Four other people inside that vehicle were seriously injured including a 4-year-old girl who will never fully recover from her injuries. The other two people who were inside the car suffered minor injuries and have since recovered.

Sawicki has pleaded guilty to Aggravated Vehicular Homicide and Assault. He will be sentenced February 6, 2020.
