BATAVIA, N.Y. (WKBW) — Batavia police say an arrest has been made in connection with a Wednesday night shooting.
The shooting occurred on the 200 block of Oak Street in the City of Batavia, according to police. A male victim suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body area and a white male suspect reportedly fled the scene in a white vehicle before police arrived.
Officials say the victim was treated at the scene and then transported to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester via Mercy Flight with reported non-life-threatening injuries.
Following their initial investigation police say 21-year-old Jacob Sponaugle of Batavia was identified as the suspect.
According to police, Sponaugle and the victim were acquaintances and Sponaugle was allegedly there to sell a firearm.
Sponaugle was taken into custody just after 2:00 a.m. without incident outside of a residence on Montclair Avenue.
He faces the following charges:
Attempted murder in the second Degree – one count
Assault in the first degree – one count
Criminal use of a firearm in the first degree – two counts
Aggravated criminal possession of a weapon – one count
Criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree – one count
Criminal sale of a firearm in the third degree – one count
