BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — At about this time, many people decide to ditch their New Year's Resolutions. Here's some motivation to keep going, taking care of your mind, body, and soul is so important to your overall health.
"This is the decade of taking care of yourself and taking time for yourself," Dina Santos, Owner of Blu Spa & Salon on Orchard Park Road in West Seneca said. She says many people are focusing more on relaxation and meditation to help them find balance in their lives.
The spa & salon offers everything from haircuts, nails, massages, to meditation sessions. One meditation practice that's been popular is called Raki. Taking in the good energy and releasing the bad is one of the main concepts of a popular Japanese meditation practice called Raki.
"Breathing is the best, easiest, most convenient ways to bring yourself back into yourself," Megan Glendinning, Raki Master and hair specialist said. People are constantly busy but Santos says it's important to just take time for yourself to make others around you better too.
"It's a crazy world and you need to take care of yourself and you need to center yourself," Santos added.
Pat Greene is a Counseling Manager at Horizon Health, he says there are some things you can do right now to feel better and improve your mental health. You can start with approaching life with a sense of gratitude.
"Ask yourself, what am I grateful for in this moment, that begins to literally change how your brain physically functions," Greene said.
Greene also recommends walking or exercising more to boost your mood.
"We are built to love so if we do that on a regular basis that changes how we feel," Greene said. Greene also says the biggest thing people struggle with is letting ourselves make mistakes and giving ourselves more compassion.
