NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WKBW) — There were tears of joy and gratitude from a 20 year-old COVID-19 survivor as she exited Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center on a stretcher.

After nearly a month of being on a ventilator, and two months is a hospital bed, Talia Kalisiak was given a heartfelt goodbye as she said farewell to the frontline workers who helped her battle the virus.

“There were times when I didn’t know if I would see her again,” said her mother Heather.

Kalisiak tested positive for COVID-19 after her entire immediate family was diagnosed with the virus in November. Her parents say she was so sick, she had to be hospitalized and shortly after, had to be intubated.

“It’s been such a hard journey. We would call and ask how she was doing and they would just say, ‘pray’,” Heather said.

Talia will now come to Kenmore Mercy Hospital, as she continues her rehabilitation.

To the frontline workers, her family is forever grateful.

“Thank you so much for giving me back my baby,” Heather said.
