NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WKBW) — A 12-year-old girl is in critical condition after being struck by a car in a North Tonawanda crosswalk Saturday night.
According to the city of North Tonawanda Police, just before 10:30 p.m., police responded to the intersection of River Road and Ward Road for a pedestrian hit by a car.
The investigation found that the victim was attempting to cross River Road in the crosswalk and failed to yield to traffic, which had a green light. She was then struck by a 2018 Hyundai Tucson.
An off-duty North Tonawanda firefighter witnessed the accident and immediately began rendering aid to the victim. She was taken to Golisano Children's Hospital, where she remains in stable but critical condition.
The driver stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The victim's name is being withheld due to her age.
The investigation is ongoing.
